Practice what you Preach

In our daily life we often order or rather command people to do good, but we seldom forget ourselves.People always say one thing and turn around and do another. This is indeed a sign of Hypocrisy!

Lets see what Qur’an says regarding this matter.

Allah said in Surat al-Baqarah , ayat 44 that:

“Do you order righteousness for the people and forget yourselves while you recite the Scripture? Then will you not reason?”

Again,Allah said in Surat as-Saff , ayat 2-3 that:

“O you who have believed, why do you say what you do not do? Great is hatred in the sight of Allah that you say what you do not do.”

The meaning of the above two verses is apparent from its words. That we should practice what we preach. There should be complete agreement between a true Muslim’s word and deed.He should carry into effect whatever he says, and when he has no intention of doing it, or has no power for it, he should not say it. To say one thing and do another is one of the most hideous characteristics of man, in the sight of Allah.

Also I want to share a Hadees on this matter. Usamah ibn Zaid reported that The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

“A man will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and thrown into the Hellfire and his intestines will pour forth in Hell. He will go around them just as a donkey around a millstone. The people of Hell will gather around him and say: What has happened to you? Were you not enjoining good and forbidding evil? He will say: Of course, I used to enjoin good but I did not practice it myself, and I used to forbid evil but I practised it myself.”
[Sahih al-Bukhari 7098 & Sahih Muslim 2989a]

This is a chilling message!!

Therefore, enjoining righteousness and performing righteousness are both required. Neither category is rendered ‘not necessary’ by the practice of the other.Educating others but then not acting on that advice is indeed a hypocrisy!

A person’s example is much more powerful than just his words. When we ask someone to do something, we must do it ourselves also. We should not ask others to do what we do not do ourselves.Lead by example.Practice what you preach or don’t preach at all. Walk the talk.Because People watch what you do more than they listen to what you say.Our Belief don’t make us a better person but our behaviour does. What is the use of all of our knowledge & teachings about ISLAM but we don’t put that into practice and follow those teachings? So if you truly believe in Islam then act like a Muslim.Obey the commandments of Allah in Qur’an and follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

And ALLAH knows the best.
