Why the Muslim Ummah is suffering so much?

This question Often comes to our mind when we see the sufferings of our Muslim brothers and Sisters around the globe. Be it Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Kashmir, or Palestine. And we ask ourselves this question that, “WHY THE MUSLIM UMMAH IS SUFFERING SO MUCH?!!!”

Well, the answer is pretty simple. Because Muslims has taken this clear and pure religion of Islam as amusement and play as the worldly life has deluded them.Today Muslims do not possess anything from their ‘Deen’ (religion), except a name.We are Muslim just by name not by our deeds! Many, many Muslims around the world are not even fulfilling the Fardh Injunctions – Salaah, Zakaah, Fasting in the month of Ramadan, etc. We are neglecting the very Salaah which is the second pillar of Islam. Salaah is the thing which separates us from disbeliever and Satan. When Allah has said in Qur’an, “O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient. ” [Qur’an 2:153], but we are not praying yet we want Allah’s help.

What happens if in a building only one or two pillar is left? Doesn’t it collapse and come down and get destroyed? The same thing is with us. Islam has 5 pillars. And we are just with one pillar that is ‘SHAHADAH’.We just testified. But the remaining 4 pillars (Salaah, Fasting, Zakaah,Hajj)we haven’t built and it remained unconstructed. How can this UMMAH stand if they hasn’t built the rest 4 pillars up!

Then we have those Muslims who, in the face of natural disasters, war, genocide, etc. begin to question the existence of God or ask as to where is Allah , Most High’s Mercy and Compassion, or ask if He is seeing all that is happening (Allah be our refuge).

And on the top of all this we are committing sins. The things which Allah has forbidden for us and declared it as ‘HARAAM’, we are doing all those things.Allah has said Muslims to enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil and not to go near Al-Fahshah! But today Muslims are not enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil instead they are in all the bad things.Muslims are doing ZINA,committing immorality, imbibing alcohol, consuming interest, treason,so on and so forth.Really, We deserve no Nusrah, we deserve no help, we deserve no interference of Allah, how do we want Allah to interfere on our behalf when we are disobeying HIM.How do we want Allah to give us Nusrah when our women are walking on streets without Hijab and the Muslim Men are happy. Allah gonna give Nusrah or send help to this Ummah who are breaking his commandment and are proud and happy?

Then,we have left Qur’an and Sunnah. We are not governing ourselves by SHARIAH but, we are ruling ourselves by Kuffar ideas and secular man-made laws.We prepared constitution and secular law to rule our land. Foreign concepts and ideas have been confused with the ideology of Islam. Our countries and their puppet regimes are controlled by the Western world and are there to serve anything but the needs of the Muslims. They rule by what benefits them not what the Qur’an and Sunnah say.Our Blessed Land has been broken into pieces which has caused smaller entities that are disunited and divided and which has caused Muslims to loose their identity. We became Pakistani, Kuwaitis, Syrian, Egyptian, Algerian and Jordanian first and Muslims second. We are over 57 countries divided by artificial borders imposed on us by those filthy western bloodsuckers colonialist who destroyed our Islamic Identity, burnt our books, killed our forefathers and we now we are so proud of being a Pakistani, Algerian, Syrian.Shame on Us!!Then we are divided amongst ourselves into sects and groups for which our strength as One Ummah is reduced. When Allah has commanded us to not to get divided. As we read in Qur’an:

“O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided……” [Qur’an 3:102-103]

And the worst thing is that we are killing and abusing our own brother just because they are Shia,Sunni,Wahabi,Deobandi, etc. And the enemy of Islam are inciting the sectarian conflict amongst Muslims so that we remain busy fighting each other and shed the blood of our own Muslims brother.

It is a shameful day for the Ummah of Hazrat Muhammad (Sallallaahu ‘alayhi waSallam) being a silent spectator on the face of murder, rape and genocide of our mothers, sons, daughters, brothers and elders. The Muslims worldwide who are supposed to speak as one entity yet they remain silent and don’t move their tongue while these endless atrocities are taking place every minute of every hour of every day and Muslim blood is shed in the name of TERRORISM while the Muslim Ummah is silently watching! Our brother and sisters are dying and starving but we can’t feed them because they are from different country. We can’t help them out of fear that the enemy nation may attack us for this reason.Allah has said in Qur’an that Believers are brothers, and also urged us to fight for the oppressed people who cry out for help, and also commanded us not to take disbelievers as ally. But we are doing all the things that Allah has forbidden us to do and are not doing the things that Allah has commanded us to do.

Then Our cause of destruction is the love for this world. Muslims has started to love this world and are craving for wealth and fame. When Allah has warned us that “Life of this world is enjoyment of deception”. Yet we are getting attracted to this world. And this love for the world is cause of our destruction.I remember a very beautiful hadees where Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) has compared us with food. The first of these narrations is that of Thawbaan radiallaahu ‘anhu the freed slave of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. He related that the messenger of Allaah said: “The nations are about to call each other and set upon you, just as diners set upon food.” It was said: “Will it be because of our small number that day?” He said: “Rather, on that day you will be many, but you will be like foam, like the foam on the river. And Allaah will remove the fear of you from the hearts of your enemies and will throw wahn (weakness) into your hearts.” Someone said: “O Messenger of Allaah! What is Wahn?” He said: “Love of the world and the hatred for death.” The full hadees is below:

Narrated Thawban:The Prophet () said: The people will soon summon one another to attack you as people when eating invite others to share their dish. Someone asked: Will that be because of our small numbers at that time? He replied: No, you will be numerous at that time: but you will be scum and rubbish like that carried down by a torrent, and Allah will take fear of you from the breasts of your enemy and last enervation into your hearts. Someone asked: What is wahn (enervation). Messenger of Allah (): He replied: Love of the world and dislike of death.[Sunan Abu Dawud 4297]

This Hadees explains the first form of weakness, which has befallen the Ummah in all corners of the world, as being a result of inclination to this world, love of it, and being preoccupied with it, whilst turning away from the Hereafter, being distant from it and hatred of death. Hatred of death is a sign of loving this world, since the one who loves this world, hates death. Since, with death, comes the meeting with Allah – the Most Perfect. And as we are afraid of death we are unable to fight kuffars and are scared of them.Indeed, fear is a weapon which Allah implants in the hearts of His enemies. This is why the strength of the Muslims, is not in their great numbers – weapons or wealth – but it is in their aqeedah (belief) and their adhering to it. For today there are plenty of Muslims, but they are like foam, like the foam carried by the waves. And their riches are many but cannot be for them. Rather, it has become the possession of their enemies.

Many ask the question that Why is the Ummah suffering so much, despite millions making dua throughout the world, and millions making dua during Haj and Umrah? Why is there no change?

The answer can be understood by way of an analogy :

A son is disobedient and rebellious towards his father’s instructions, and arrogant in his stance against his father, demanding, swearing, abusing and adopting the bad behaviour as is common in this day and age. The father is deeply hurt, offended and angered and when he has had enough of the insolence and arrogance, he finally resorts to breaking off ties with his son. He cuts off all privileges.

Now, if the entire family, even the entire community, tells that father : “Forgive him. He is your son…”

That father will respond : “I have no problem with forgiving him. All he has to say is, “I’m sorry”, and I will forgive him.”

However, on being encouraged to humble himself and ask for forgiveness, the son retorts with arrogance: ‘Why must I? Why do I need to? I’m independent! I don’t need him!’

Then will that father forgive that son? Will he grant those privileges of money, car, etc.?

Similarly, the Pious Muslims are making dua for the Ummah. In fact, if all the Believers were to gather on the Day of Arafaat and earnestly pray for the Ummah, Allah , Most High will most assuredly be prepared to forgive. However, from our side, there is a step to be taken – and this is what the majority are not prepared to do: They are not prepared to take the step of “CHANGE”.

Allah , Most High’s doors are ever-open. Allah wants us to become His.Allah wants to accept our repentance[See Surah An Nisa ,Aayat-27]. He wants to forgive us and shower His infinite Mercies and Blessings upon us, but we are not prepared to take the step of obedience, the step that will secure His Forgiveness and Pleasure.

Unfortunately, the majority do not want to acknowledge their sins ,let alone sincerely repent for their sins. Many justify and rationalize their sins, even dispute and argue regarding Allah , Most High’s Commandments, as if they have some kind of authority over Allah , Most High (Allah be our refuge). So many are brazen in their indulgence in sins, as if challenging Allah , Most High.

With this kind of behaviour and attitude, can we expect any favours, any privileges or any kind of assistance from Allah , Most High? We are living in a fool’s paradise if we think that we can continue sinning and still be recipient of Allah , Most High’s bounties and aid.

If we truly want Allah , Most High’s assistance, then we have to give up sins.

Allah , Most High is not blind or deaf. He does not want chaos. Allah , Most High wants peace. However we have to fulfill the conditions of the contract. The first condition is that we become Believers who are ‘kaamil’ (perfect). If we implement Deen in our lives, adopt Taqwa and follow the noble example of Rasulullah ﷺ then the conditions will change.

The Day the Ummah fulfills its duties, across the board – making a total change, then our suffering will be replaced with success, prosperity and happiness and people of other faiths will also accept Islam.

Allah , Most High explicitly spells out His conditions and His promises:

“Allah has promised, to those among you who believe and perform righteous deeds, that He will, of surety, grant them in the land, inheritance (of power), as He granted it to those before them; that He will establish in authority their religion – the one which He has chosen for them; and that He will change (their state), after the fear in which they (lived), to one of security and peace: ‘ They will worship Me (Alone) and not associate anyone with Me.’ If any do reject Faith after this, they are rebellious and wicked.”So establish Salaah (Prayer) and give regular Charity (Zakaah); and obey the Messenger that you may receive mercy. ”

[Qur’an 24 :55-56]

Thus, we will have to fulfill our pledge by making the effort to obey Allah , Most High and His Rasul ﷺ, to see the fruit of our duas and receive the assistance of Allah , Most High – on an individual level, on a national level, and on an international level.

  1. When I read the title of your post, even before opening the article my heart was screaming that it is because of us. Because we have discarded Quran and sunnah out of our lives. No wonder the entire world hates us. I myself feel the scorn towards so many Muslims.
    True to every word article.

      Jazak’Allahu Khair Aapa.

You know Once Second Caliph of Islam Hazrat Umar ibn Al-Khattab, (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
“Verily, we were a disgraceful people and Allah honored us with Islam, so if we seek honor from other than Islam, then Allah will humiliate us.”

I think His words has come true. We are been disgraced now.
