Nowadays the western so-called intellectuals and their surrogates in the Muslim lands have launched a campaign against Islam. These days it’s been a norm that everybody is bashing ISLAM and its adherents- Muslims. Be it Online or Offline. There are frequent instances of pseudo-rationale bigoted minds without any knowledge, having patently absurd & nonsensical understanding of the Quranic and Hadees text, and blurting poisonous view and misinterpreting Hadees and Quranic verses. Be it on television news debate or in the streets. It hurts isn’t it my Dear Muslim Brothers & Sisters when you hear such things. Are we going to discard the commands of Allah and His messenger because of their jests and jeers and their attempts to lampoon Islam and the Muslims? Nay!! Never!! Bear this in mind! We would take little notice of their jokes and banter, if we had the conviction of faith in our heart and the supreme confidence that the way of life we have learnt from the Prophet , is the absolute truth and the only right way. We shouldn’t be upset rather we should be glad that actually their mockery and insults are proving the Aayats of The Holy Qur’an true. I will start off my article by a verse:
You will surely be tested in your possessions and in yourselves. And you will surely hear from those who were given the Scripture before you and from those who associate others with Allah much abuse. But if you are patient and fear Allah – indeed, that is of the matters [worthy] of determination.[Qur’an 3:186]
You see folks, Allah has informed Us through Holy Qur’an that we will hear many insults & mockery from Kafirs. So we shouldn’t be surprised today. And the above verse means that one should neither allow oneself to get angry at their spite and hostility, nor waste one’s valuable time by engaging in useless debates and acrimonious polemics. It is better to wait patiently and observe how God deals with them.
Muslims should not lose their self-control in the face of the Jews’, Christians, Polytheists invidious taunts and slander. The Jews’,Christians,Polytheists accusations, debased talk and false propaganda should not provoke the Muslims into adopting a posture either inconsistent with truth and justice or with the dignity, decorum and high standards of moral conduct that become men of faith. Therefore, every person who stands for truth, enjoins righteousness and forbids evil, will be harmed in some manner. In such cases, there is no cure better than being patient in Allah’s cause, trusting in Him and returning to Him.
The Qur’an also tells us to dismiss the people of ignorance and not to give a lot of attention to them. It asks us to not engage with them in any conversation, except perhaps to safeguard ourselves from greater harm. For example:
Hold to forgiveness; command what is right; But turn away from the ignorant.[Qur’an 7:199]
This is such an important matter that the Qur’an makes it one of the traits of the People of God.
And the servants of (Allah) Most Gracious are those who walk on the earth in humility, and when the ignorant address them, they say, “Peace!”;[Qur’an25:63]
So if any ignorant, rude, and insolent people address us harshly we should ignore them and wish them Peace and turn away from them.Similar kind of advice is also given in Surah Al-Qasas, Aayat-55.
On the other hand, we see the Qur’an also encouraging us to engage with the people of reason and to even debate them if they have a different point of view:
Invite (all) to the Way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for thy Lord knoweth best, who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance.[Qur’an 16:125]
We can’t leave this subject without contemplating a very interesting verse that speaks to the heart of the issue at hand. In essence, the Qur’an is telling us that when it specifically comes to the issue of mocking ISLAM and Prophet Muhammad ﷺ ,which is exactly the issue that we are dealing with. The advice is Don’t take matters in your own hands, rather, Allah will take care of those who mock our Prophet and Islam.
Indeed, We are sufficient for you against the mockers [Qur’an 15:95]
Allah will throw back their mockery on them [Qur’an 2:15]
All the prophets were accused of depriving people of the pleasures of this life. Every single prophet who ever came to this world was labelled ‘backward’, ‘old fashioned’, and a ‘reactionary’. Each one of them was a victim of insults and mockery of all kinds, and the target of all the taunts and sly remarks. You are now the inheritors of all the prophets. Everything they had is now yours – not only the guidance, the blessings of Allah and the status of high honour, but also the taunts, the insults and the mockery. This world will treat you exactly as it treated all the prophets, because it accepts you as their heirs. Step forward and claim your heritage. It is yours for the asking! Accept the taunts with joy because they come with the territory. They are part of the bequest! These jabs and sneers are the badge a believer should wear as an honour bestowed. If you have faith in Allah and the messenger of Allah, you would brace yourself for some more insults and tell the West to go ahead and take their best shots. Then, toss aside the taunts and smile in the face of insults, for you are the inheritors. You would be far more better, if you ignore their insults, let the slurs slide by, and toss the taunts aside. They will frown their foreheads, talk down at you, and speak ill about you. Of course they would do that, wouldn’t they? You believe in Allah, so you must proceed along the path of the messenger of Allah. You must emulate the pious women of the house of the Prophet. Let the unbeliever poke fun. Let them laugh at you, for the day would soon arrive when you will laugh at them. Our existence on this earth is brief. Our days here are numbered. How long will these ‘kafirs’ be able to laugh at us? Soon the curtain will fall, death will overtake, and the reality will be revealed. The fate of those who poked fun and those who stood firm would become apparent. In the hereafter, the believers will make fun of the unbelievers for eternity. Therefore, do not allow them to intimidate you. Do not let the unbelievers cower you into abandoning your ways. Stand firm. Let them taunt, and do whatever else they want. We shall not stray from our chosen path. These minor annoyances caused by the unbelievers are the obstacles that litter the only path to salvation.Remember! The world respects only those who refuse to alter their opinions, or bend their beliefs, merely for the benefit of others. It holds in awe those who stand firm in adversity, and with courage confront all criticism and ridicule. In fact, honour is not in discarding Islam, but rather in adopting and applying it.
So that’s it folks!! Let them bark, don’t be disheartened. If someone hurts you then don’t be upset as it’s the law of nature that the trees with the sweetest fruits are beat the most.Prophets have been ridiculed and insulted in the past by riff raff. Thus it should not come as a surprise for us to be met by some of the distortions and slanders against the Islam & Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. But whatever it is, We Muslims should respond with nobility, academically and intellectually as it’s been mentioned in Surah An-Nahl, Aayat 125.
I got a beautiful quote which is actually of Imam As- Shaf’i (R.H.):
“Say what you wish in abuse of Me,For my silence towards the Idiot is indeed an answer. I am not at a loss for a response, but rather it does not befit the Lion to answer the Dogs.”
From this article of mine you should carry at least 2 things Home:
- Don’t be disheartened by the kafirs’ mockery & Insults.Just ignore the rude & ignorant people who mock and insult ISLAM & PROPHET MUHAMMAD ﷺ.
- But,If any disbelievers wants a debate, then give them. And, argue with them in the best manner. And respond to their allegations academically & intellectually.
I will finish off my article with a verse from The Glorious Qur’an:
Say, [O believers], “We have believed in Allah and what has been revealed to us and what has been revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the Descendants and what was given to Moses and Jesus and what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [in submission] to Him.”[Qur’an 2:136]
May Allah guide us all and send His peace and blessings upon all His Prophets. Ameen!!!
